EURES is a network of public employment services in the partnership with the European Commission (the European Economic Area countries plus Switzerland).
The EURES network was established in 1993 and it is an instrument of improving mobility, that is, of geographical and professional mobility of labour force in the European labour market.
The purpose of EURES is to provide information, counseling and employment mediation services (job matching) both to employers and job seekers, but also to all citizens who believe this network can contribute to the principle of free movement of people.
In the European cross-border regions, EURES plays an important role in providing information and assistance in solving all kinds of problems related to cross-border commuting which workers and employers might be faced with.
More than 850 EURES advisors are contacting employers and job seekers across Europe on a daily basis. The EURES advisers are trained experts who offer three basic EURES services: information, guidance and employment mediation services both to job seekers and employers who are interested in the European labour market. They have developed specialized knowledge on practical, legal and administrative preconditions related to mobility at national and interstate level and they work at public employment services of each member country or some other partner organizations within the EURES network.
Concerning job seekers and employers, the goals of the EURES are to promote the following: the development of single European labour market open to all workers of the EU member countries; interstate, inter-regional and cross-border exchange of job vacancies and job applications; the transparency and exchange of information on labour markets at national and regional level, information on living conditions, education and methodology and indicators at the statistical level.
After Croatia joins the European Union, the Croatian Employment Service will be a member of the European Network of Public Employment Services (EURES). Job mediation services in other EU countries will be available to Croatian citizens.
