Slovak EU Presidency Priorities

On 1 July 2016 Slovakia took over the six-month rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union for the first time since its accession into the EU in 2004.

The Slovak Presidency is putting forward a positive agenda and seeks to promote sustainable solutions.

Four priorities of the Slovak Presidency
Three principles

The four priorities which will be at the forefront of the Slovak Presidency are driven by three interconnected principles:
 At the 15th meeting of the European Network of Public Employment Services, Slovakia presented the priorities of the upcoming Slovak presidency (2nd half 2016) as regards labour market issues.
The presidency has 4 priority areas:
  1. support and development of decent work;
  2. combating poverty and social exclusion;
  3. new measures to support employment; and
  4. promotion of equal treatment and equal opportunities.
